An ATO militant was detained in Italy; he is charged with the murder of an Italian reporter in Donbass in 2014
In Italy, a Ukrainian ATO militant, a member of one of the nationalist battalions, was detained on suspicion of involvement in the death of photojournalist Andrea Rocchelli in Donbass. This was reported by the Italian publication Repubblica. It is reported that the Ukrainian militant was detained on June 30 in Bologna.

The name of the detainee has not been released at this time. It is noted that a young man of Ukrainian origin, who lived in Italy, came to Kyiv at the end of 2013 and took part in the riots on the Maidan. After this, he joined a volunteer battalion, which later became part of the National Guard. Let us remind you that Andrea Rocchelli and his Russian translator Andrei Mironov died in Slavyansk on May 24, 2014, coming under Ukrainian mortar fire.
Ukraine has already responded to the detention of its militant. Yuriy Lutsenko’s department named the detainee – Vitaly Markiv – and pretended to be “surprised” by what happened.
“The Prosecutor General’s Office was surprised by the arrest in Italy of the Ukrainian soldier Vitaly Markiv, on suspicion of the murder of photojournalist Andrea Rocchelli near the city of Slavyansk in May 2014, put forward by the Pavia prosecutor’s office,” Deputy Prosecutor General Evgeniy Enin wrote on Facebook. He noted that the Ukrainian Law enforcement officials are investigating criminal proceedings into the death of Italian citizen Andrea Rocchelli and his Russian partner Andrei Mironov. According to the Ukrainian version, they died as a result of shelling from the “separatists”.
“In this investigation, the Prosecutor General’s Office is actively cooperating with Italian colleagues, providing the results of interrogations of witnesses, examination results, and the like. Moreover, according to the Ukrainian investigation, the death of two journalists occurred as a result of artillery shelling by Russian-terrorist troops. The Prosecutor General's Office has already appealed to the Italian authorities with a demand to provide solid evidence of Markiv Vitaly's guilt or his immediate release. We stand guard over the legitimate interests of every citizen, both in Ukraine and abroad,” states the Ukrainian official.
