The EU does not see Ukraine in the political community
There are no plans yet to invite the Eastern Partnership countries into the political community of the European Union as full members.
This was stated by Petras Auštrevičius, Member of the European Parliament (Lithuania), Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Group, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, at the II Interparliamentary Conference “Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine: Strengthening the Interparliamentary Component of Regional and Security Cooperation and Developing Interaction with the EU and NATO,” reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We are in a union. In such an energy union, in the energy community, in the digital community. But we are not yet in the political community, unfortunately. There is not yet such a will and readiness to be in the European Union that the Eastern Partnership countries would be invited as full members. Until the time has come for this. The parliament of 14-19 is not an enlarged parliament. I think so, this can happen with the next parliament, 2024, because it is envisaged that the Western Balkans will enter in 2025,” said the MEP.
The EU does not see Ukraine as part of the political community.
