The first same-sex marriage was registered in Montenegro
After the “Law on Same-Sex Partnership” came into force in Montenegro on July 15, the municipality of Budva registered the first same-sex marriage in the country.

Secretary of Local Government Miliana Vukotic-Jelusic said that two local young women entered into a “marriage”, who, however, live and work abroad. Lesbians contacted the secretariat immediately after the Same-Sex Partnership Law came into force on July 15 this year, and the municipality took the necessary steps to ensure that the law and all by-laws were implemented.
“We provided a register of partnerships, a prescribed extract from the register, which is transferred immediately after the conclusion of a partnership in accordance with the mentioned law,” said Elusic. “We are happy that we were able to be the first to implement the law, and we wish happiness and great love to our partners in their lives together.”
