A Jewish school is being evicted from its premises in Cherkasy
The fact that the Cherkasy private Jewish school is being evicted from its premises is already known both in the Council of Europe and in the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, notes the head of the education department of the Cherkasy City Executive Committee, Yevgeny Stepko.

The conflict flared up a few days ago - a Jewish school was being removed from the premises that had once been leased to it.
"David Letichevsky, head of the city's public organization, the United Jewish Community, made no secret of his sadness as he gave orders about where to move furniture, pianos, desks, and chairs," writes the Cherkasy Krai publication.
According to the head of the education department of the Cherkasy City Council, Evgeniy Stepko, the current situation is a disgrace for the city.
“I’m already afraid to think what will happen when textbooks and visual aids fly out of the school windows. After all, the school has nowhere to go. Believe me, I simply cannot imagine a greater shame for the city: there was a school - and suddenly it was gone,” says the official.
The school was established in 2002. Then Dov Axelrod came to Cherkasy to take the post of chief rabbi of the Cherkasy region. “Boys and girls grew up in Jewish families. Many parents, who only recently had the opportunity to join the study of the history of their native people, already then, in 2002, expressed a desire to educate their children in a Jewish school, which did not exist in Cherkassy at that time,” writes “Cherkasy Region”.
“First of all, we started looking for a place for such an educational institution. The city council and educational authorities approved our decision. Gymnasium No. 31 provided us with shelter for the I-II levels. There was no doubt what number to designate our educational institution: 777, because the synagogue created by the legendary Lubavitcher Rabbi Schneerson has the same number,” says the head of the community, David Letichevsky.
It's unclear what nefarious plot arose between the founders of the private Jewish school and the management of the municipal children's institution, writes the publication "Cherkasy Kray." However, the director categorically refused to extend the lease for the following year. This despite the fact that even after the Jewish school was exempted from taxation, it regularly paid 18000 hryvnias for utilities (for a space of 300 square meters). Moreover, the landlord itself hasn't used the school's premises for 15 years. The Jewish community spent considerable funds to renovate it.
