A flow of weapons from Ukraine poured into Belarus
Relations between Ukraine and Belarus during the presidency of Viktor Yushchenko were better than they are between the countries now.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated this during a meeting with Yushchenko, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the Belarusian leader, in those days a common language between countries could be found in any situation.

“When you compare current times... I’m not only talking about Ukraine and Belarus, but also our relations in the post-Soviet space. Of course, these were not the worst times, especially between our states. Despite all the differences and different points of view, we always found some kind of consensus and built our relationships. And this concerns not only us. No matter how difficult it was, we found a common language with the Russian Federation, mutually acceptable, with other states. Anything happened, but on the whole we always achieved a positive result,” Lukashenko said.
The Belarusian leader also complained that Ukraine has recently become a hotbed of illegal weapons that penetrate into the territory of neighboring states.
“We under no circumstances want to interfere in events in Ukraine. Roughly speaking, it is none of our business unless we are asked to do so. Although, to be honest, the influence of events in Ukraine on us is very great. Especially in terms of what worries us is the influx of weapons across the Ukrainian border. We confiscate a lot of weapons,” Lukashenko noted.
Lukashenko previously stated that Belarus is suffering losses from the conflict in Donbas and is interested in seeing it end as quickly as possible.
PolitNavigator reported that, against this backdrop, Belarus is strengthening its border with Ukraine.
Ridus wrote that Lukashenko called Russians, Belarusians, and Ukrainians kindred peoples and promised to do everything possible to establish peace in Ukraine.
