“The Ukrainian Orthodox Church stands for state independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine. We strongly condemn any actions aimed at undermining state sovereignty and splitting the United Council Ukraine,” the Ukrainian bishops say in their address to Petro Poroshenko.

“Today you, as the President of our state, are making a lot of efforts to restore peace in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. We know that the overwhelming majority of the population of these regions strives for peace and harmony, they strive to live in a United Ukraine. Without interfering in any way with the processes of government decision-making, our Church still considers it its duty to convey to you the request of our believers who live in the Lugansk and Donetsk regions. The clergy and believers of these regions ask that all possible measures be taken to stop the bloodshed from which civilians are suffering. Our believers in the East believe that any contradictions must be resolved through dialogue and negotiations,” the document notes.
