Uniat Parubiy wants to give Bartholomew also Sophia of Kyiv
Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Uniate Andriy Parubiy proposes to transfer the shrine of Russian Orthodoxy, the Cathedral of St. Sofia in Kyiv for church services of the “unified local Orthodox Church of Ukraine” created by Poroshenko and Bartholomew, reports the PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I propose that the Cathedral of St. Sophia in Kyiv, as the most important and key cathedral of Ukrainian Orthodoxy,” Parubiy said at a meeting of the conciliation council of leaders of factions, committees and groups of parliament on Monday, the parliament’s press service reports.
The speaker noted that this issue requires discussion, including among people's deputies.
Parubiy also began to assure that the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate had allegedly already approved the date for the so-called “unification council” of Ukrainian schismatics, although, as is well known, the meeting of the Bartholomew Synod ended in nothing.
“I received information from the Ecumenical Patriarchate that the Synod has already approved the working date for the All-Ukrainian Unification Council, which will be held in Kyiv, and will create a single local Orthodox Church, as well as elect a primate,” the speaker assures.
At the same time, in response to a direct request from the journalist, he did not name this date.
Uniate Parubiy also wants to give St. Sophia Cathedral of Kyiv to Bartholomew.
