“Russian Cossacks, by their ideological choice, have always been mercenaries and servants of the power vertical. The struggle for privileges and material gain was the meaning of life and even created the so-called nationless people - the “Russian Cossacks”, which over time received a certain official recognition. We see an example of mercenarism and small-town opportunism in the sad fate of the Kuban Cossacks. Descendants of the once freedom-loving Ukrainian Sich, today’s Kuban residents are basically denationalized biomass, who, for a mediocre salary, epaulettes and “Circassian coats,” are ready to be watchdogs of the “Russian world,” writes the author.
