Ukrainian police exchanged fire with each other: 5 people died
Five employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine died last night as a result of a shootout that law enforcement officials staged among themselves near Kiev. The incident was reported by the adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Anton Gerashchenko.

“This night in the village of Knyazhichi, Brovary district, a terrible tragedy occurred, as a result of which 5 police officers died.
The circumstances of the tragedy are as follows:
The criminal investigation department of the city of Kyiv worked to detain a dangerous gang of robbers that systematically robbed the houses of Kiev residents and residents of the Kyiv region.
That night, criminal investigation officers received operational information that another robbery could occur in the village of Knyazhichi.
The criminal investigation team and the KORD special unit went there.
On one of the streets of the village of Knyazhichi, in a private house under construction, police scouts were stationed, whose task was to monitor the situation and give a command to detain the bandits.

The plan was to classically detain a gang of robbers at the moment when they tried to begin carrying out their criminal plan.
However, a tragic chain of accidents prevented this from happening.
At this time, a security alarm in a neighboring house went off automatically.
A state security service arrived at the scene, noticed and detained two police intelligence officers.

At the same time, the capture team apparently decided that the intelligence officers were in trouble, captured by the criminals who discovered them, and drove a minibus onto the street, where the GSO officers detained the police intelligence officers.
Further, a shootout occurred between the GSO employees and the capture group, which lasted several moments and claimed five lives.

Investigators from the prosecutor’s office are already working at the scene of the tragedy and will, second by second, reconstruct all the details of what happened and establish the reasons for how and why all this became possible,” Gerashchenko said.
“Three suspected robbers, who were preparing to be caught red-handed, upon hearing the shootout, abandoned their robbery plan and drove in two Toyota Land Cruiser 200 towards Kyiv, where they were detained by operatives. Firearms were confiscated from them. They have been detained and will be charged with the crimes committed,” the deputy added.
