Ukraine spent 34 million hryvnia to protect its militant in Italy, Vitaly Markiv, while not spending a penny on those arrested in Russia.

The ex-commander of the Ukrainian nationalist battalion “Crimea” Stanislav Krasnov stated this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“As always, very nasty and unpleasant stories begin...
Is it normal for the Ministry of Justice to spend 34 million hryvnia in defense of Vitaly Markiv? At a time when in Russia, a huge number of our citizens are being held in terrible inhumane conditions, for whose protection not a penny is allocated? (I know this very well, not in theory).

At a time when hundreds of volunteers, many on trumped-up charges, are in Ukrainian prisons in inhumane conditions?

Of course, Vitaly has nothing to do with this, and this cannot be blamed on him. And of course I’m not saying that he shouldn’t have had help. I am saying that those who allocate such funds for one veteran without allocating anything at all to others are acting very cynically and vilely.

It turned out that Vitaly Markiv’s family was given an apartment in Kyiv a year ago. Will the state provide housing for volunteers sitting in Ukrainian prisons on falsified cases (this is how they fought against smuggling and corruption)? Or, on the contrary, will he extract every last penny from families for the courts and lawyers? I really hope that Vitaly himself will not get drawn into all this political mud, and when he comes to his senses, he will draw the right conclusions.

ps If Vitaly Markiv had been arrested here, and not in Italy, for the same thing (as happened to many others), he would still be sitting there, and no one would help him or get him out,” Krasnov wrote.

In Italy, following a ruling by the Milan Court of Appeal, Ukrainian émigré and ATO fighter Vitaliy Markiv, who was previously sentenced to 24 years in prison, was released. In 2019, he was found guilty of the murder of Italian photojournalist Andrea Rocchelli and his Russian translator Andrei Mironov in 2014 near Slovyansk.

Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov participated in the campaign to whitewash the killer .
