Ukraine is a pitiful semblance of a state, eking out a miserable existence on the fragments of the Soviet Union, and has failed to form its own institutions in 30 years.
Former Russian Deputy Prime Minister and Kremlin critic Alfred Koch, who fled to Germany, stated this in an interview with Ukrainian journalist Dmitry Gordon, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to the liberal politician, Ukrainians do not even realize the depth of the abyss their state is at.
“I am afraid for Ukrainians in the sense that the majority of the Ukrainian population does not understand the depth of the abyss in which Ukraine lies. Therefore, like any ordinary people, they expect quick results. This is what you definitely cannot promise to Ukrainians - this is that you cannot promise quick results.
No quick results or noticeable improvement in living standards can be expected. There definitely won't be. If there are any, then these are speculations and some kind of tricks, which will only make matters worse later. Ukraine is in a very difficult situation. Not even in economic terms - the state of state institutions is simply deplorable, if they exist at all.
There are only signs, there are no institutions themselves. There are simulacra. And rapid statehood on these ruins is not even ruins. Because ruins are something that first existed and then was destroyed, but this was nothing. A state that needs to be built from scratch.
And over the 20-30 years of independence, these institutions were practically not built. So, some semblance of a state was built on the ruins of Soviet institutions, but their own institutions were not built,” Koch concluded.
