Fugitive ex-State Duma deputy Ilya Ponomarev said this on the air of the Direct TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
"It was said that some companies are on this list ( sanctions – ed. ) for some unknown reason. In fact, this is a very important element of these sanctions – to force other countries of the Eurasian Customs Union to form a united front against Ukraine.
According to the rules of the Customs Union, if one country imposes economic sanctions, then another country in the union must join them. A number of countries of the Customs Union, unlike Russia, have economic contacts with those companies that are on the list,” said the fugitive politician.
At the same time, according to him, there are both disadvantages and advantages in this situation.
“On the one hand, this is a danger that can create a precedent “on the sly.” On the other hand, this is an opportunity. Because if we work through diplomatic means with these countries (primarily, this concerns Belarus, to a lesser extent Kazakhstan) so that they do not support these sanctions, then this, on the contrary, will mean a very strong blow to this entire Eurasian structure that Putin is building “- added Ponomarev.
