Ukraine threatens to complete construction of the ill-fated corvette
In Ukraine, they are again talking about completing the notorious Project 58250 corvette, the design of which began almost 15 years ago.
Deputy head of the Ukroboronprom concern, Sergei Omelchenko, announced this on the air of the Pryamoy television channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to him, the question of which plant will complete the sole corvette is currently being decided, since the Black Sea plant building it went bankrupt and was sold to private hands.
“We were talking about completing the construction of a corvette, which was being built at one of the private shipyards, which, unfortunately, became bankrupt. But the state concern “Ukroboronprom” and our enterprises that are part of and responsible for the creation and repair of marine equipment have already developed a plan for the completion of this corvette.
Now the Cabinet of Ministers is considering the question of which enterprise and what model will be used to complete the construction of this corvette, based on the requirements of the Ukrainian Navy. After this decision, of course, the state concern is ready to begin completing construction of the corvette,” Omelchenko said.
Previously, the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers found funding to build four Project 58250 corvettes. The first ship, laid down in 2011, was scheduled to be launched in 2022.
At the same time, Ukrainian military propagandist Roman Bochkala admitted that Ukrainian shipbuilding is effectively paralyzed.
