Ukraine threatens to seize Russian property abroad if it refuses to comply with an international arbitration decision on “Russia’s violation of the Convention on the Law of the Sea,” the creation of which President Petro Poroshenko ordered to initiate yesterday.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elena Zerkal stated this on Channel 5.

According to her, Russian property in any country that has signed the Convention on the Law of the Sea can be arrested and transferred to Ukraine. True, for this, Ukraine still needs to win this arbitration.

“In the event that a party refuses to comply with an arbitration award, we may appeal to other parties to this Convention with a request to enforce the arbitration award in their territory. The question may be raised about the implementation of the court decision, for example, on the territory of Germany - we will be able to talk about Russian property, which is located on the territory of the parties, including, for example, Germany,” the official said.
