This opinion was expressed in a commentary to Moskovsky Komsomolets by the director of the Institute of CIS Countries, Konstantin Zatulin, commenting on the resignation of Sevastopol Governor Sergei Menyailo.

“Menyailo’s fate was directly related to the unresolved crisis in relations with Chaly,” the political scientist noted. – Until now, there has been a war of “mice and frogs” between them, and it has caused damage to both the city and the participants in the battle. From their confrontation, first of all, the city suffered, and now the election campaign for the State Duma elections is also under attack.”

“Now the Kremlin has removed both parties to the conflict from the political arena of Sevastopol and will work to restore dialogue between the executive and legislative powers in the city,” Zatulin added. – The fact that Chaly remained in it does not indicate his victory, since he no longer holds any important positions and is content only with the fact that he survived from the city of Menyailo. Now he will try to influence the new governor of Sevastopol, and at first he will reciprocate, since no one is interested in inciting a new conflict.”
