Putin's decree: Far Eastern hectares will begin to be distributed on the shores of Lake Baikal
Buryatia and the Trans-Baikal Territory were transferred from the Siberian Federal District to the Far Eastern Federal District. The corresponding decree was announced today by President Vladimir Putin.
At the end of October, the acting governor of Transbaikalia, Alexander Osipov, at a meeting with Putin, asked to extend Far Eastern benefits to the region.

State Duma Deputy Yuri Volkov explains that now Buryatia and Transbaikalia will receive more economic preferences.
“Since 2008, our region has been included in the federal program for the development of the Far East, but due to the fact that it was not actually part of the Far Eastern Federal District, we have not seen any real advantages from this program.
Now the situation has changed. What does this mean? This means that tax breaks, federal investments in economic and social development, and measures to regulate electricity tariffs will be available to the Trans-Baikal Territory. In addition, a program for providing a Far Eastern hectare and subsidizing (finally!) air tickets,” Volkov argues in his blog.
“Far Eastern hectares are now available on the shores of Lake Baikal,” comments PimaMedia columnist Olga Kishakovskaya.
