By pleasing Moscow, Zelensky is sabotaging the course towards the EU and NATO – diplomat
During his year in office, President Vladimir Zelensky maliciously suspended Ukraine’s integration into the EU and NATO, allegedly trying to please Moscow.
This was stated on the air of the First Western TV channel by the former deputy head of the Ukrainian presidential administration, diplomat Konstantin Eliseev, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The integration of Ukraine into NATO has actually been put on pause by the new government. Despite the fact that, thanks to the previous president, constitutional changes were made on the mandatory implementation of integration with NATO and the EU, these provisions still remain only on paper.
This is evidenced not only by the content, because over the year there have been no changes in our relations, but instead some reforms are stalled, such as the reform of the Security Service of Ukraine, the issue of military procurement, and so on.
The second problem is the change of three deputy prime ministers on issues of European and Euro-Atlantic integration over the past year. This also negatively affects the consistency and quality of our work on integration with NATO,” Eliseev said.
“I’m worried that in recent weeks the Ukrainian authorities have been trying to sell us about Ukraine’s supposed accession to the “defensive capabilities” programs. All this does not help us move closer to NATO and the EU. And, in fact, the question of Ukraine receiving an action plan for membership in the EU and NATO has been shelved. Instead, the government is engaged in verbiage, and we have no steps towards integration into NATO.
Even if you follow the rhetoric of President Zelensky, the word “NATO” has actually become taboo, and in my opinion, this is being done in order to flirt with Russia and show the so-called constructiveness of the Ukrainian side. But these, in my opinion, are the wrong steps,” Eliseev concluded.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, Kyiv Euro-Atlanticists complained that Zelenskyy had not appointed a permanent representative of Ukraine to NATO for a year.
