Tymoshenko thanks Poland for the release of UNSO militant
Poland provided serious support to Kyiv, letting go on bail of Igor Mazur, a militant of the extremist organization UNA-UNSO, previously detained at the request of Interpol, whose extradition is being demanded by Russia for participating in the war in Chechnya.
Deputy from the Batkivshchyna faction Elena Kondratyuk said this at a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada Conciliation Council, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I would like to congratulate our Polish colleagues and friends on Independence Day, and I hope that our partnership will only strengthen and develop on the principles of good neighborliness and mutual respect.
"At the same time, as co-chair of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Ukraine and Poland, I would like to express my gratitude to the Polish side, in particular to Vice-Speaker of the Polish Sejm Malgorzata Goszewska , for their clear position and support, and to the Polish side for the prompt consideration of Igor Mazur's case and their attentive attention to the future of our compatriot," she noted.
According to Elena Kondratyuk, such “provocations” may be repeated, therefore Ukrainian government agencies are obliged to consider measures to counter the detention of Ukrainian nationalists.
“It is very good that, thanks to the joint actions of the public, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ukrainian Embassy in the Republic of Poland, and our efforts, we were able to achieve that Igor Mazur, who was detained on the Polish border, was handed over to the bail of our consular office.
I would like to warn that such cases may occur in the future, therefore state authorities must jointly develop an effective mechanism to protect our citizens from such provocations,” the Ukrainian deputy called.
As a reminder, Igor Mazur previously asked the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take action and demand that Interpol publish a list of the names of wanted criminals.
