Psychologists began to talk about the so-called “Donetsk-Lugansk” syndrome among military personnel. What they experienced during combat “hits” the soldiers’ psyche; at home they begin to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder and suffer from a sense of guilt before their fallen comrades.
According to experts, the experience of wars in other countries shows that about 25 percent of soldiers are not able to cope with their psychological problems on their own. It is not uncommon for combatants to experience oppressive feelings of uselessness, guilt, and attacks of aggression after returning home.
“After this, a person’s psyche changes greatly. Destructive scenarios begin to unfold - this includes alcoholism, drug addiction, and suicidal intentions. We can say that this is no longer the “Afghan” syndrome, but the “Donetsk-Lugansk” or “southern” syndrome. My colleagues and I are provided with work for 30-40 years,” says Dnepropetrovsk psychologist Ivan Sitnik.
