The name of the founder of the Donetsk-Krivoy Rog Republic will be taken away from Artemovsk and renamed Bakhmut
The city of Artemovsk, located in the Ukrainian part of the former Donetsk region, will be renamed Bakhmut.

This was reported by the press service of the Artemovsk City Council.
In particular, they reported that public hearings on the renaming of Artemovsk and city streets, the names of which contain Soviet and communist symbols, were held from August 17 to August 21.
“Proposals to rename the city and streets were heard. Based on the results of the discussion, it was decided to support proposals to return the historical name of the city,” the City Council noted.
Let us remind you that the city of Artemovsk is located on the Bakhmut River, 89 kilometers northeast of Donetsk. It is named in honor of the outstanding revolutionary, social democrat Artem (Sergeev) - one of the leaders of the proletarian Donbass and the founders of the Donetsk-Krivoy Rog Soviet Republic, which existed on the territory of eastern Ukraine for several months during the Gradlan War of 1918-1919. Today Artemovsk is located on territory controlled by the Kyiv government.

The so-called “institute of national memory”, which deals with issues of falsification of Ukrainian history for budget money, reported that if local state administrations and local self-government bodies do not submit their proposals regarding new names of settlements to the Verkhovna Rada by November 21, 2015, then the parliament within the next three months (until February 21, 2016) will independently decide on renaming, regardless of the opinion of local residents.
