“Events in Mariupol have once again shown that it is the population that suffers first of all from military clashes on the territory where civilians live and work. Blood was shed in the city. This happened on a day that is sacred to all of us - Victory Day on May 9,” says the appeal posted on the official website of Metinvest.
“We call to abandon the practice of conducting large-scale battles in the peaceful cities of Donbass using the Armed Forces, heavy equipment and weapons. We believe that the Ukrainian military, as well as other armed people, should immediately leave the city. All possibilities for peace negotiations have not yet been exhausted. The authorities can and should still hear the voice of the residents of Donbass,” Akhmetov believes.
“Further military operations on the territory of Donbass will only lead to the fact that the majority of residents will lose trust and respect for the authorities,” the appeal says.
“To maintain order in Mariupol, the Metinvest Group, together with the municipal police, is creating people’s squads from among the workers of metallurgical plants. These squads will begin patrolling the city and protecting civilians from looters and criminals operating in the city,” the statement emphasizes.
Let us remember, as the Mariupol militia reported on Lifenews, the military gave the militia 72 hours to leave the city. Otherwise, they use the Grad system. According to the militia, a landing force of more than a thousand soldiers landed on the approaches to Mariupol.
Akhmetov is being asked to end the ATO and is being asked to create his own self-defense force.
