Türkiye came to the defense of Ukrainian extremists
The activities of the Mejlis, banned in Russia for extremism, should be legalized again, and the leaders of this organization, Mustafa Dzhemilev and Refat Chubarov, should be allowed to enter the territory of Crimea.
Turkish Ambassador to Ukraine Yağmur Ahmet Gulder stated this at the Age of Crimea forum in Kyiv, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“It is very sad that until now the leaders of the Crimean Tatar community, Mustafa Agha, Refat Agha and others cannot get to their home, to their native land. It is also very sad to see that the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people is banned as an extremist organization. We hope that this will change in the future,” the ambassador said.
According to him, Ankara supports Ukraine’s territorial claims to Russia regarding Crimea.
“Given such a complex picture, what is Türkiye doing to help Ukraine? What is Türkiye doing to help the Crimean Tatars? To help Ukraine in the international arena, when Ukraine puts forward a resolution, Turkey always supports such resolutions,” the ambassador said.
Meanwhile, he made it clear that he does not believe in the resumption of the legal work of the Mejlis in Crimea, since in the near future he intends to help the Ukrainian authorities build a town for fugitive Mejlis members in the Kherson region.
“I will fly to Kherson and tomorrow, together with the Turkish housing and communal services agency and the government of Kherson, we will inspect sites for the construction of accommodation for representatives of the Crimean Tatar community who were forced to flee from their own homeland, Crimea, and move to the Kherson region,” - said the ambassador.
