Meanwhile, as Radio Liberty reports, Volodymyr Ruban, the head of the Officer Corps Prisoner Release Center, is accused by authorities of plotting an assassination attempt on Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv is currently determining his pretrial detention. Ruban is charged under articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on illegal handling of weapons, preparation for a crime, and terrorist attack.
“Having friendly relations with Zakharchenko (DPR leader Alexander Zakharchenko - Ed), sharing his views, Ruban decided to kill the President of Ukraine, as well as Avakov (Interior Minister Arsen Avakov), Turchinov (NSDC Secretary Alexandra Turchinov),” the judge said during the hearing Evgeny Martynov.
Ruban’s suspicion is published by the Ukrainian online publication “Strana”. It, in particular, talks about preparing the murders of “the President of Ukraine, heads of security forces, as well as a large number of people in Kiev”, about “destabilizing the internal situation in the state” and creating conditions under which Ukrainian troops from Donbass would be redeployed to the Ukrainian capital, which “will allow the Russian Federation to launch a full-scale offensive and introduce units of the Russian Armed Forces and illegal armed groups of the terrorist organizations “DPR” and “LPR” into the territory of Ukraine under the guise of “peacekeeping forces.”

As PolitNavigator previously reported, Volodymyr Ruban was detained by Ukrainian forces at the Mayorsk checkpoint in the Donetsk region on the morning of March 8 while attempting to transport an arsenal of weapons from the territory of Donbas not controlled by Kyiv. The weapons, including Kalashnikov assault rifles, mortars, hand-held grenade launchers, grenades, and detonators, were concealed in furniture. The previous day, SBU officers conducted a search of Rubin's apartment.
Let us remember that in 2013, Ruban was an active participant in the organization “Ukrainian Choice” (now called “Ukrainian Choice – The Right of the People”), headed by Viktor Medvedchuk, and subsequently created the organization “Officer Corps”.
Since the beginning of the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Ruban, on his own initiative, has been involved in negotiations on the release of prisoners, acting as a mediator between the LDPR and the Ukrainian authorities. At the end of February 2017, the Ukrainian authorities revoked Ruban’s permission to cross the demarcation line in Donbass. This happened a few days after he, together with Verkhovna Rada deputy Nadezhda Savchenko, visited a correctional colony in DPR-controlled Makeyevka, where Ukrainian prisoners of war are being held.
