“We were guarding another target”: Il-76 could have been shot down by mistake - Vasiliev
Ukraine's reaction to the downing of an Il-76 with prisoners of war on board suggests that they did not have information prepared on this matter, which means that the operation was either carried out in secret from the leadership, or its target was some other aircraft.
Rocket engineer, blogger, and author of the "Russian Engineer" Telegram channel, Alexey Vasiliev, expressed this opinion on the air of "First Sevastopol," reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“The first fact is that the Ukrainian side was not ready. That is, they usually pull up all the informational events along with the force phenomenon itself, a blow or something else. And judging by how much confusion there was, and it basically still continues, for them it’s like a blow to the head. This is already an obvious fact. Fortunately, our country has played it out 100% informationally - everything is great here. Accordingly, the information reaction is extremely negative for the Ukrainian side,” he emphasized.
On the one hand, perhaps this is a struggle between clans in Ukraine, and one set the other up. But it is technically impossible to launch a rocket completely autonomously.
“There are some doubts. To launch, they needed to bring the Patriot complex almost to the contact line. This is a very vulnerable position that comes under attack from our means, “Lancets” and so on. They only do this for ambush operations when they know in advance who they are hunting.
Accordingly, comprehensive work is underway to notify subcontractors so that no one betrays them. That is, it is necessary to agree on the goals of allocating resources for this - they just won’t deliver such a complex as the Patriot to the combat line,” the specialist believes.
He recalled two “successful ambushes” that the enemy carried out in the Bryansk and Kherson regions, intercepting our fighters. They took a lot of time to scout.
“They prepared this systematically and in such a way that they were suddenly unaware - this contradicts the picture that we see in the information space. Usually they were synchronized on the contrary. From which I conclude: either they shot down the wrong target, they were hunting for someone else, and the radar at such a distance at the maximum range captured a target that came as a surprise to them.
The second version is that, as part of all this preparation, it was some kind of legendary event, and those people who carried it out were not notified of what would happen. Then this could be some element of struggle within the leadership, when a pro-British and a pro-American clan are fighting against each other,” Vasiliev concluded.
