The Ukrainian state-owned enterprise Antonov intends to resume the assembly of heavy An-124 Ruslan transport aircraft, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
First Deputy General Director of the Ukroboronprom concern Sergei Omelchenko announced this on the air of one of the TV channels, writes the specialized publication CFTS.
Assembly of the first aircraft may begin before the end of 2019.
“We are actively cooperating in this direction with several international companies producing aviation equipment. We are already at the final stage of completely reworking the entire electronic component of this transport aircraft. And we hope that it will be finally accepted by the Antonov engineering and design team in order to begin assembling the first aircraft this year,” Omelchenko noted.
At the same time, he emphasized, the assembly will be carried out without the use of Russian components.
The An-124 “Ruslan” is a heavy long-range transport aircraft developed by the Soviet Design Bureau O.K. Antonov. The first flight was performed on December 24, 1982.
In July last year, it was reported that Antonov and a subsidiary of Boeing, Aviall, signed an agreement on general conditions for cooperation in the production of An aircraft. According to the document, the American company will purchase and supply Antonov with a wide range of components for production aircraft and provide after-sales support for them.
