The United States is changing its position towards Russia and looking for new forms of cooperation.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the Nash TV channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The expert believes that Ukraine should not hope that the visit to Russia of US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, which is taking place these days, will bring Kyiv relief in Donbass issues.
“The US position until recently was to use the Ukrainian crisis as a tool to contain and torpedo Russia. Now, perhaps, this position has changed. Perhaps the United States is ready to gradually change its approach against the backdrop of the crisis with China, against the backdrop of the impending war for Taiwan and other crises,” the political scientist said.
“Now the parties have entered the second round, testing each other’s positions, exploring the possibility of a new compromise. But this compromise, of course, will not be easier for Ukraine today. Because Russia has actually made these territories its own over these two years. And it was one thing to give up two or three years ago, to return 3,5 to 4 million Ukrainian citizens to Ukraine. But today it’s a different matter to return 700 thousand Russian citizens to Ukraine,” Bortnik said.
