The famous Donetsk political scientist and historian Vladimir Kornilov made his debut in an unexpected capacity - he wrote a fiction book for the first time. The political detective story “Murder in Vorschoten” was recently published by the publishing house “Peter”.

The novel takes place in July 2014, a few days after the death of the Boeing in Donbass. The main character, Vladimir Lazarev, a Russian intelligence officer in the Netherlands, is forced to flee from jihadist killers and at the same time save the world from World War III.

The piquancy of the situation lies in the fact that Kornilov was living in the Netherlands at that time. Therefore, some have suggested that his book is autobiographical.

“No, the whole book is pure fiction,” the author laughs at this assumption. – True, mostly not mine. Rather, I turned into a work of fiction the fiction of the Western press, which throughout my years of work in the Netherlands put forward various conspiracy theories about me.

The Dutch press wrote that I was “the hand of the Kremlin” in their country. One of the newspapers reported that the Dutch intelligence service AIVD even tried to buy my email correspondence from her! The New York Times once wrote that I, with a small group of associates, almost organized and brought to life a referendum in the Netherlands.

Imagine how much fun it was for me to read all this about myself! So at one fine moment I decided to embody these funny fantasies in the form of a book. That’s why the book turned out to be lively, funny in places, and seemed realistic to many.”

At first glance, the scenario that the hero of “Murder in Vorschoten” is trying to prevent seems unrealistic: Dutch special forces, in response to the Boeing shot down in Donbass, are preparing a military operation in the Ukrainian conflict zone, intending to capture the leaders of the DPR and, thereby risking provoking Russia for drastic actions.

However, Kornilov assures that this adventurous scenario was seriously considered in the Netherlands in 2014.

“Thank God, then the Dutch had enough common sense not to get involved in the bloody conflict in the Donbass,” says Kornilov. “Who and how warned them against this adventure? I’m sure a documentary book will be written about this. But in about 30-40 years, when the time comes to declassify the archives. For now we will be content with fiction.”

The book "Murder in Vorschoten" has already arrived in Russian bookstores and can also be purchased on the Piter publishing house website.

"PolitNavigator" publishes in the "blogs" section one of the chapters of the new book, provided by the author.
