Putin's advisor called the refusal to liberate the South-East of Ukraine a “strategic mistake”
The West again deceived the Russian leadership by promising in 2014 to recognize Crimea as belonging to the Russian Federation and blackmailing it with the start of a big war.
This was stated by the famous Russian economist, adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Sergei Glazyev, speaking to participants in the Donuzlav youth patriotic camp in Crimea.
“We had to liberate the entire Southeast. Why weren't they released? I think this is the result of Western provocation. Western leaders made it clear to our leadership that they recognize Crimea as Russian. But if the Russian Spring continues further, and other regions join Russia, there will be a world war. It was a bluff,” Glazyev said.

He believes that at that moment the Russian leadership made a strategic mistake.
“They didn’t recognize Crimea, but used it as a basis for sanctions. The war in Ukraine began because we did not liberate the South-East. If we had protected the South-East, there would be no war today, there would not be tens of thousands of victims. The Kiev regime could survive only in Kyiv and Western Ukraine. This was, I believe, a profound strategic mistake,” Glazyev is convinced.
