The team of current President Petro Poroshenko considered the option of a military coup if comedian Vladimir Zelensky wins the election. Verkhovna Rada deputy Anton Gerashchenko, who is close to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, stated this on air on the Khvilya Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The parliamentarian threatened to sue those military personnel who refuse to accept Zelensky as commander-in-chief.
“A couple of weeks ago, I made a loud statement that if any of the military personnel, officers or privates make a statement that they will not obey the new president, if Zelensky becomes him, then they will have to go to trial.
I said this on purpose, because there is information that some people, “hot heads” around President Poroshenko, wanted to use and may be using such a method as a statement from veterans with hints that active soldiers and officers that they will not obey Zelensky.
That if he is elected, then the army will disintegrate, will not obey the president, and a direct coup d’etat is possible.
This will not happen, because Ukrainian officers and soldiers are true patriots of their country, they know the Constitution and laws better than the president, and even the voting results themselves in the ATO zone, where presidential candidate Zelensky scored more than the current Supreme Commander-in-Chief Petro Poroshenko,” – said Gerashchenko.
