Social bread is becoming more expensive throughout Ukraine
Kyiv, February 17 (PolitNavigator, Alexander Semenyuta) – The result of the activities of the Yatsenyuk government was a collapse in the standard of living of Ukrainians. Bread producers, incl. and “social” varieties, are no longer able to restrain the growth of production costs and are increasing selling prices throughout the country.

From February 18, the capital's largest producer of bakery products, PJSC Kyivkhleb, increases the cost of certain types of bread by 10-12%. Starting tomorrow, the price of “Kiev sliced loaf” will go up - from 4,86 to 5,34 UAH, “Ukrainian bread” - from 5,94 to 6,9 UAH, as well as “wheat bread” - from 4,8 to 5,64 UAH for a loaf.
The company attributes the rise in bread prices to the devaluation of the national currency and the rise in production costs, Delo writes.
Prices for baked goods are also rising in other regions. For example, last week the price of bread went up in Odessa. The region's largest producer, Odessa Loaf, has raised product prices by an average of 2-3% since February 8.
Manufacturers explain the rise in prices by increasing production costs. “Increasing prices for raw materials, in particular flour, the cost of which makes up 42% of the cost of bread, increasing prices for fuels and lubricants, correspondingly increasing prices for the logistics component, rising energy costs - all this entails a decrease in the profitability of producers and leads to a forced increase in prices,” - experts note.
Finding themselves between a rock in the form of the need to increase product prices and a hard place in the form of low incomes of Ukrainians, bakery enterprises are forced to skimp on quality.
“If the price of bread does not rise, then its quality decreases. It is obvious. I can assume that bakers will no longer use flour of 1-2-3 grades, we will be talking about 4-5 grades,” says Maria Kolesnik, head of the analytical department of the AAA consulting agency.
