Sobchak assessed the chances of Slepakov and Urgant to become president of Russia
In Russia, unlike Ukraine, it is impossible for a former comedian or showman to come to power in elections.
Russian liberal journalist and ex-presidential candidate Ksenia Sobchak stated this in an interview with Kyiv radio NV, answering the question whether, following the example of Ukraine, a successful comedian like Semyon Slepakov or Ivan Urgant could become president in Russia.
“I would be happy, but it seems to me that for now this is from the realm of fantasy. They may be allowed to vote, but it doesn’t seem to me that even in the conditions of democratic elections they would have much of a chance. So far, it seems to me that Russia, as a fairly patriarchal country, is looking for a president-father, a president-tsar. And this, in fact, is success, if we look at the opposition, when the leader also becomes authoritarian, tough, he begins to increase the electorate,” the journalist said.
“And Ukraine turned out to be ready not for a president who is a father or a tsar, but for a president who is a handsome son or even a boyfriend with whom Ukraine is ready to live and be friends. Some such young, cool, handsome president suddenly turned out to be possible,” Sobchak added.
