Sprechenführer laments: in the territories liberated from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, all the “riches” of Ukrainization are perishing
Language Ombudsman of Ukraine Taras Kremin presented the results of an investigation conducted by his department on the topic “Russian policy of linguocide in the occupied territories as a way to dismantle the constitutional power of Ukraine and an element of genocide against the Ukrainian people.”
For this purpose, the Ukrainizer called Sprechenführer held a press conference, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“What facts of linguocide are we talking about? We are talking about such areas as education, culture, the media sphere, document circulation, as well as external advertising and other manifestations of linguocide or restrictions and displacement of the Ukrainian language by occupation regimes in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
If we talk about the media sphere, among the first manifestations of discrimination or linguocide in the occupied territories is the destruction of television towers, the shutdown or seizure of television channels and radio stations, the kidnapping and murder of journalists, and the launch of their own propaganda television.
Such cases occurred in the Kherson region, in Zaporozhye, in leading regional centers where they had their own television, and the broadcast was practically stopped. At the same time, they imposed Russian narratives through the so-called zombie cars,” Kremin said.
He also called the change of letters on the stele at the entrance to Mariupol a linguocide.
“The whole world has seen a photo of the dismantling of the Ukrainian sign at the entrance to Mariupol, but this is far from an isolated incident. Such cases occurred in Kherson, Melitopol, in settlements - Nikolsky, Mikhailovka, Vasilyevka, Berdyansk, Dneprovodnoye, Volchansk and others, where signs changed from Ukrainian to Russian. This is also a manifestation of linguocide, because it is a restriction of the rights of Ukrainian citizens to receive information and a violation of the article concerning external advertising.
Public space also concerns issues such as the dismantling and destruction of national symbols in occupied cities and towns, Ukrainian banners, memorial plaques to fallen Ukrainian soldiers, and the replacement of inscriptions on government buildings with Russian-language signs,” the Sprechenführer was indignant.
He also complained that in the liberated territories, schools are switching to Russian as the language of instruction and their programs are changing.
According to the provided graph of the number of recorded “facts of linguocide,” advertising and signs are de-Ukrainized in first place, and education in second place. At the same time, culture and document flow occupy lower positions on the list.
