The capital of Serbia, Belgrade, may become a new aviation hub for Russian flights to Europe and Asia after the closure of air traffic with Turkey.

Political scientist Oleg Bondarenko stated this on the YouTube channel “Balkanist”, reports a correspondent "PolitNavigator".

“When Istanbul ceases to be a hub, the question arises which other European capital can become such a hub. Through which city will Russian citizens who need to go to the East or West fly? Maybe through Belgrade? Aeroflot, Nord Wind, Aire Serbia planes fly there every day. Maybe the Federal Air Transport Agency will give permission to other airlines? Then the tickets won't be so expensive. Today it is possible to use Belgrade as a hub. So far prices are biting, but I hope that after May prices will change,” Bondarenko said.

On April 15, Russia’s decision to limit air traffic with Turkey came into force. There are still two flights a week between Moscow and Istanbul, which will be operated by Aeroflot (on Tuesdays and Fridays) and Turkish Airlines (on Mondays and Fridays). Air traffic between Turkey and Russia may be resumed after August 1, 2021.
