Sechin gloomily predicted the onset of a “golden age” of American energy colonialism
The United States is striving for energy dominance in the world, using energy as a weapon, which is destroying the global energy market.
This was stated by the President of PJSC NK Rosneft Igor Sechin at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, reports a correspondent "PolitNavigator".
“On May 14 of this year, US President Donald Trump announced the beginning of the “golden era” of American energy and ensuring American energy dominance by withdrawing from the position of the (Paris) climate agreement, abandoning expensive clean energy plans, facilitating access to natural resources, stimulating oil and gas production, developing energy infrastructure, expanding export opportunities for American energy producers.
Shale production has never been able to compete with cheap traditional energy sources. But we must pay tribute to American regulators who were able to give the necessary impetus to the development of the industry by reducing taxes, regulatory barriers and environmental requirements.
It cannot be called a coincidence that on the day when Trump proclaimed the golden era of American energy, a bill was introduced in the US Senate that directly concerns the ban on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
A number of commentators like to accuse Russia of using energy as a political tool. At the same time, the indisputable fact of the realities of today's life is that the United States is using energy as a political weapon on a large scale.
The United States, through sanctions or the threat of their application, has a destructive effect on the market system of global energy. The American “golden age” for all other market participants may turn out to be an age of energy colonialism,” Sechin warned.
