Screenwriter Andrei Ivanov found a use for used cartridges
Environmentalists removed 12 kg of chemical waste from the Nevsky District. This included used cartridges and contaminated soil.
By law, cartridges cannot be thrown into a trash container or landfill, as they are hazardous waste. But not all St. Petersburg residents are so careful about nature as to take cartridges to special collection points.
“The problem can be solved in the only way: it is necessary to include a fee for recycling cartridges in the price of printers,” says composer and screenwriter Andrei Ivanov. “Then stores will be required to accept the cartridges back and pay their cost.”
In other words, Ivanov proposed using the Soviet practice of handing over glass containers. It was almost impossible to find an empty bottle on the street back then: each one was carried to a collection point. The money raised was enough for 2 ice creams or several tram rides.
“The same can be done with cartridges,” Ivanov is sure. “If the printer owners themselves are too lazy to carry the waste back to the store, this could be done by children, pensioners or the unemployed.”
