Former Aidar battalion commander Melnichuk will be stripped of his parliamentary immunity and arrested

Kyiv, April 08 (PolitNavigator, Alexandra Ignatieva) – The Prosecutor General’s Office will soon submit submissions to the Verkhovna Rada on lifting immunity from a number of deputies, in particular from ex-Aidar battalion commander Sergei Melnichuk.

This was stated by First Deputy Prosecutor General Vladimir Guzyr during a joint meeting of the Rada committees on combating corruption and ensuring law enforcement.

“Guzyr in the Rada actually announced a proposal for the arrest of deputy Melnichuk (“Aidar”) for the kidnapping of Labutin (ex-director of Ukrspirt),” said MP Sergei Leshchenko.

As PolitNavigator reported, Labutin, with the help of Aidar fighters, fled from the hospital on December 19, 2014. The day before, he was presented with a notice of suspicion of embezzlement of UAH 172,5 million from Ukrspirt and tax evasion in the amount of UAH 28,2 million.

In turn, Melnichuk denied his involvement in organizing the kidnapping of Labutin.
