A number of US companies decided to stay in Crimea despite sanctions
Kyiv, March 30 (PolitNavigator, Maxim Karpenko) – A number of US companies decided to continue business in Crimea, despite the sanctions. Alexey Rodzianko, President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Russia, stated this in an interview with Ogonyok magazine.

According to him, Crimea has a relatively large population and good economic prospects, so many Western companies do not want to lose such a market by figuring out how to circumvent sanctions.
“There are Americans in Crimea, it’s difficult for them - they had to move from Ukrainian to Russian jurisdiction. Not everyone succeeded: McDonald's closed, as did a number of banks. But Metro remained, like the products of many well-known companies. In general, an exception was made for pharmaceutical companies from sanctions in Washington itself, so as not to cause humanitarian problems. But those who remain are forced to count every step so as not to be punished. To do this, they work through intermediaries or through Russian “subsidiaries,” since the participation of only “US-persons” is punishable, but the punishment will not affect a Russian company,” notes Rodzianko.
He also added that in the process, a number of well-known international brands also “Russified”: “So, when we talk about Russian companies, we should not forget about Pepsi or Coca-Cola.”
