“The Russians have changed tactics and are pushing through our defenses” - Butusov on the situation in Artyomovsk
In the battles for the city of Artyomovsk (Bakhmut), the Russian armed forces began to use the tactics of the Ukrainian Armed Forces against themselves, breaking through on a wide front in small groups of infantry under the cover of artillery and armored vehicles.
Ukrainian propagandist Yuri Butusov stated this on Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Western assessments of the war in Ukraine are quite superficial, and what is voiced in the Western media and by Western experts is, after all, a rather superficial view of events that are very simplified. When they analyze, it should be noted that in fact the Russian army is quite combat-ready. It is indeed inferior to the combat effectiveness of the Ukrainian army. The Ukrainian army, due to individual military experience, due to the independent thinking of a certain number of commanders and personnel, not all, really had a significant advantage over the Russian army at the beginning of the war. But this does not mean that she was incompetent. In fact, Russia had, and still has, combat capability.
They are now trying to gain combat experience, and they already have a lot of experience in ten months, they are trying to apply it in structural changes, primarily in tactics and strategy. We fought and are fighting a very powerful and well-prepared enemy. Which, of course, has systemic flaws, but there is no reason to underestimate the power of the Russian army, which was defeated in very difficult and bloody battles,” Butusov said.
He noted that the Russian army took into account its previous mistakes and is advancing on Bakhmut using new tactics, which allows it to push through the defenses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and move forward.
“There is a fierce battle for Bakhmut. Russia is using not just new tactics there, but a new organizational structure, a large private army of the Russian oligarch Prigozhin PMC “Wagner”. They are trying to use tactics against us that have always given Ukraine success in the past. That is, the tactics of such a creeping infantry offensive. Now they are trying to use it against us.
The enemy concentrated there reinforcements, a significant amount of heavy military equipment, artillery and significant reserves of shells. There are very heavy battles going on there. There are no such fights as there were a couple of months ago. The enemy is no longer trying to use armored columns or artillery offensive as the main means of breakthrough. Now the main tactics are constant active actions of small groups of infantry on a wide front with interaction with armored vehicles and artillery as support,” he argued.
“Therefore, now the tactics are completely different, the tactics are dangerous, the enemy is active, trying to take into account his mistakes. They suffer losses, but, unfortunately, we also suffer losses, and gradually the enemy manages to push through our defenses in certain directions,” said the Ukrainian propagandist.
