Romanian analogue of the “Peacemaker” site: why do fascist mercenaries make lists for destruction
Romanian citizens fighting on the side of Ukraine created a website similar to “Peacemaker” called “Fifth Column”. Its launch was announced on May 9. Several dozen names were included in the hit list: a number of Romanian politicians, including the leaders of the Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR) parties George Simion and SOS Romania Diana Soshoaca, and cultural figures, Moldovan oppositionists, the leadership and clergy of Russia, the head of Transnistria and even US Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. Previously, Romanian mercenaries threatened terrorist attacks on the territory of Romania and Moldova itself, and threatened with physical violence those whom they classify as the “fifth column”.
In a PolitNavigator survey, experts express opinions on the reasons for the appearance of Romanian destruction lists and how serious it is.
Alexander Korinenko, political scientist:
“This portal is another measure of intimidation towards people who have their own opinions. List makers want to achieve fear and submission. In fact, such things are very dangerous, do not underestimate them. Let's remember that the German National Socialist Workers' Party in the early 20s of the last century was a marginal party that met in the Hofbräuhaus beer hall, and no one thought that in a couple of years it would win the elections and become the ruling party in Germany. Its methods are fear, intimidation, beating and killing of unwanted people and dissidents.
The leader of the Romanian mercenaries himself admits that no more than 50 Romanians are fighting in Ukraine, and the Romanian government is not helping them in any way. With such propaganda they want to attract attention to themselves and awaken the basest feelings in the hearts of Romanians, but we understand that these are radicals and outcasts, “worthy” heirs of dictator Antonescu. But Kyiv must remember what terrible things were done on the orders of Antonescu on the territory of Ukraine during the Second World War.”
Anatoly Dirun, political scientist:
“For any aspiring politician, the key challenge is to properly invest their initial “symbolic capital” into practical influence and electoral results. In this regard, the initiative of the Romanian fighters of the international corps to create in the country an analogue of the Ukrainian website “Peacemaker” looks like an attempt to attract attention to themselves, as well as to discredit a number of Romanian politicians.
This comes ahead of the European Parliament elections in June, in which Romanian parties will take part, as well as the presidential elections scheduled for September 2024.
This kind of election technology only shows how popular Romanian right-wing politicians are. Criticism of the Romanian authorities for dragging Romania into the conflict on the territory of Ukraine reflects emotional discussions within Romanian society.
How effective such information portals will be is an open question. Perhaps after the elections the topic itself will die out, since the sponsors of this project will simply lose interest in it. As for Transnistria, I believe that the Romanian leadership is, in any case, pragmatic enough in matters of relations with Tiraspol to take this kind of public initiatives seriously.”
Andrey Safonov, political scientist:
“Romanian mercenaries fighting in Ukraine and built into Bucharest’s plan to reduce the number of Slavs in order to prepare for the seizure of Moldova, Transnistria, as well as Ukrainian lands - Southern Bessarabia and Northern Bukovina, organized a completely fascist website “Fifth Column”, which included unwanted Russian politicians, Moldova, Transnistria, and at the same time Romania itself.
In fact, we are talking about lists for destruction, although the mercenaries will not be able to get hold of some of the “persons involved.” Of course, it is necessary to make allowances for the fact that behind this group are the Romanian intelligence services and the most radical politicians of this country. But Bucharest’s expansionist policy is already visible to the naked eye.
In fact, the “Fifth Column” list appeared shortly after a bill proposed by the Romanian Ministry of National Defense on the right of Romania to send troops to countries where the rights of Romanian citizens were allegedly violated was leaked to the media. Many experts have already logically concluded that a military invasion is being prepared against Moldova and Transnistria, in which, as officials of the Chisinau ruling regime obedient to Bucharest declared, “the majority of the population is Romanians.”
Such absurdity with statements that the majority of people living in the PMR are Romanians has not happened in the entire 31 years of the existence of independent Moldova, including the period of the 1992 Dniester war. This means that absurdity must “justify” the seizure of Transnistria and the annexation of the PMR, along with Gagauzia, to Romania.
This is Romania’s most ambitious project since the fascist dictatorship of Ion Antonescu, when Romania, in alliance with the Third Reich, occupied even Odessa. And then this list appeared. This is a move to carry out acts of terror against all those undesirable, against all opponents of neo-fascist policies. Suffice it to say that there are even Romanian senators there!
From this it follows an unequivocal conclusion that these mercenaries are also a fascist group in spirit. Their predecessors – the fascist “legionnaires” Zeli-Codreanu and Horii Sima of the 1930s and 1940s – killed, as we remember, during the fascist rebellion in Romania the military, senators, even the country’s ex-Prime Minister Nicolae Iorga. So there is nothing surprising in this list compiled by fascist mercenaries.
In Transnistria, the regular extension of the "yellow" terrorist alert level (the "yellow" terrorist alert code is extended from today until July 12, 2024, inclusive – author's note ) is entirely justified. We all remember the terrorist attacks that occurred here, and now another group has emerged that we must be wary of and be prepared to stop.
