This opinion is expressed on the pages of the Ukrainian Week magazine by Igor Losev, an associate professor at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, according to whom, one must be prepared for the fact that the global foreign policy situation could at any moment become even more unfavorable for Ukraine.
“Political metamorphoses in Europe, the quite possible victory of pro-Russian leaders in elections in France, the Netherlands, Italy, the victory of Donald Trump in the United States, will most likely inspire Putin to take a new, much more powerful blow against Ukraine,” the expert claims.
“And there is no need to talk about the weakening of Russia, about the lack of funds, about the insufficient power of its army. You need to know Russians, having lived (not of your own free will) for more than 300 years side by side with them. For the sake of imperial domination over Ukraine, they will make any sacrifices and self-restraints, they will sell their last shirt, but they will find the forces and means to defeat Ukraine. And this is how Russian society differs from Ukrainian society, which is not always ready to go all-in. The current world chaos and demoralization of traditional planetary centers of power suit the Kremlin dictator quite well, providing him with favorable opportunities to implement his plans. Therefore, Poroshenko’s bet on foreign partners (“The West will help us”), it is possible, will turn out to be a complete failure,” Losev laments.
