Russian writer Viktor Erofeev, who presented his book, stated this at the Book Arsenal festival in Kyiv, reports the magazine Kraina.
He was asked to answer the question why the Russian intelligentsia in Ukrainian-Russian relations says the same thing as Vladimir Putin.
“Ukraine has a completely different human and historical climate,” the writer asserts. “It is psychologically easier to be under occupation. Look how Eastern Europe was able to pull itself together in 1989 and move from socialism to normal life almost painlessly. You are building yourself up as a country that has been captured by the enemy. It is very difficult for Russia to free itself from problems and historical complexes.”
“The intelligentsia finally met face to face with the people. Previously, it appeared to her as occupied. First by the communists. Then - bandits in the 1990s. Now they are security officers. But suddenly it turns out that Russians have completely different values. Let's say you are a liberal politician. You say that Crimea has always been and will be Ukrainian. You have a chance to be heard by 2 percent of the population. The trouble is that Putin listens to the people. He is probably our first ruler who is in contact with Russian expectations,” Erofeev regrets.
Let us recall that Viktor Erofeev said on the Dozhd TV channel that during the Great Patriotic War it was necessary to surrender Leningrad to the Nazis. Also in his works, which, by the way, were freely published in Russia, Russians were called a “shameful nation”, it was argued that Russians “need to be beaten with a stick”, “smeared on the wall” and “shot”.
