The Russian minister explained why the history exam will become mandatory

The head of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, Olga Vasilyeva, explained the inclusion of history in the list of mandatory Unified State Examinations.

“Neither schoolchildren nor students know history well enough. You need to know well the history of your country, literature, painting of your country, music, technological achievements for a very simple goal: so that you always have a feeling of pride and belonging in your heart, and the knowledge of what our country has stimulates us to move forward,” said Vasilyev today to journalists, the department’s press service reports.

The day before, Olga Vasilyeva announced the introduction of a new mandatory Unified State Examination - in history. Schoolchildren will take the subject as compulsory from 2020.
