“The Russian Federation fully fulfills its international obligations to finance the construction of a new safe shelter. The signed order provides for an additional contribution to the PFI in 2016-2017 from budgetary allocations in the amount of up to 10 million euros (5 million euros annually),” says the order of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Russian Federation.
The International Chernobyl Shelter Fund was created in 1997 at the initiative of the G4 countries to implement a project to build a new safe shelter over the sarcophagus, which was erected over the destroyed power unit No. 1986 of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant after the accident in XNUMX. The Rosatom State Corporation, on behalf of the Russian Federation, participates in the activities of the Chernobyl Shelter Fund.
The Russian government's decision is in no way connected with the fires in the Chernobyl zone.
Let us remind you that on April 28, fires were discovered in the forests surrounding the nuclear power plant. The fires have not yet been completely extinguished.
Former Emergency Situations Minister Viktor Baloha blamed the new government's personnel policy and the thoughtless so-called lustration for the government's ineffectiveness. Yanukovych's "reforms" were continued by the new, democratic government. They began with the lustration of Volodymyr Kholosha, head of the State Agency for Exclusion Zone Management. He was the man who created the Ministry of Emergency Situations after the Chernobyl tragedy, and whose life is tied to restoring the exclusion zone. He is a high-class professional, whom, incidentally, the previous democratic government allowed itself to remove in 2005, but I managed to correct this mistake in October of that year," PolitNavigator reports Baloha as saying.
