The Russian authorities recognized Donbass veterans as the backbone of the state – Borodai
Despite the fact that in 2014 in Russia many perceived the veteran defenders of Donbass as dangerous outcasts, now the attitude towards them has radically changed - monuments are already being erected to these people.
The head of the Union of Donbass Volunteers, Alexander Borodai, stated this on the Internet channel of the Russian military commander Yuri Kotenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Today we see a way out of volunteerism from the situation in which Russian military volunteerism found itself at the time of 2014; the mood of the authorities and society is changing. The fact is that when we came from Donbass in 2014-15 and later, we felt that we were perceived as some kind of “marginal and dangerous people.”
Volunteers were not perceived as the support of the state, because normal veterans are the support of the state, this has been the case since the times of ancient Rome. We were perceived as dangerous people. Thanks to friendly relations, connections, and patriots who are in power, we managed to solve these problems systematically - to such an extent that indeed, the Russian authorities recognize us, in particular, as the support of the state,” he said.
The head of the SDD also emphasized that during this time it was possible to solve many problems of both the volunteers and Donbass itself.
“We took small steps towards this, sometimes large ones, but when a monument was erected in Rostov to the volunteers who died in the battles for Donbass, this was one of the signals. There were many others, which I won’t talk about now; there was a solution to a huge number of volunteer problems. In particular, those volunteers and militias who ended up in Russia and were subject to deportation, we stopped these deportations and did not allow them to happen, and we are stopping them to this day.
I want to say that many problems have been resolved, not only the problems of volunteers, but also the problems of Donbass. During this time, Donbass has become very strongly integrated into Russia; Donbass is now, from a practical point of view, part of Russia, because citizens of the Russian Federation live in Donbass,” concluded Borodai.
