Russia was proposed to introduce sanctions against those who close Russian schools in Latvia
Around 900 people gathered in Riga today for a nationwide parent meeting, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
Based on its results, the organizers planned to adopt an appeal to the president of the country with a request not to sign the law adopted by the Seimas banning education in the Russian language. However, the day before, Latvian President Raimonds Vējonis announced that he would sign a discriminatory act.

Former member of the European Parliament Tatyana Zhdanok said that the Latvian authorities gave an absolutely false answer to the appeal of a group of European deputies.
“We will prove today that they are lying when they say that the public supports their education reform. But we cannot refute the fact that they were supported by the directors of 95 Russian schools. I address them. The fate of your children and your career interests are in the balance. Children will be subjected to linguistic genocide,” Zhdanok said.
Human rights activist Vladimir Linderman spoke out most radically. In his opinion, the Latvian people fully support discrimination against Russians. There will be no support from the EU either. Linderman proposes to radicalize the protest, that is, to bring its scale to such a level that the authorities consider a threat.
As another option, he suggested asking Russia to impose sanctions against those who are destroying Russian education in Latvia.
“At least a quarter of the people who voted for these laws have interests in Russia. Including political ones. But we need to seek sanctions against the sponsors of these parties. These are generally enterprises affiliated with Russia. Russia can make some serious moves here,” Linderman said.
