Roskomnadzor refused registration to the Crimean Tatar news agency QHA

Simferopol, February 20 (PolitNavigator, Evgeny Andreev) – The Crimean News Agency ( QHA ) was denied permission to carry out information activities in Crimea by the Federal Service for Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media.

According to QHA, the agency justified the refusal by referring to Art. 13 of the Law on the Russian Federation of December 27, 1991 No. 2124-1 “On the Mass Media”.

“I won’t say that such a decision regarding our agency came as a surprise to us; we were expecting such a development of events,” says QHA Director Gayana Yuksel. – What is strange is the wording according to which we were refused. We received two refusal options - one in electronic form after a request on the Roskomnadzor website, and the second - on paper. So, the latter indicates a reason that was not in the electronic version of the answer - the provision of information “not corresponding to reality.”

According to Yuksel, the agency contacted Roskomnadzor regarding registration in October 2014. A month and a half later, a response came from the department stating that one of the shortcomings in the submitted application needed to be eliminated. After consultation with specialists from the Office for the Republic of Crimea of ​​the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Communications, this paragraph was corrected and the documents were again submitted for consideration to Moscow.

The result is refusal of registration.

“We have already sent an electronic request to Roskomnadzor with a request to clarify what exactly was inaccurately reported about our agency, the answer should come on March 12, but as far as I understand, when there is no desire to register media outlets, there will always be provisions in the law for a refusal,” she said also Gayana Yuksel.
