Russia and North Korea will respond to the formation of the Washington-Tokyo-Seoul bloc
Today's visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to the DPRK takes relations between the two countries to a strategic level.
This was reported by PolitNavigator correspondent and leading researcher at the Center for Korean Studies at the Institute of Socio-Economics and Marxism-National Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Konstantin Asmolov.

“From my point of view, the main purpose of the visit is to outline the prospects for cooperation at the strategic level, taking into account the current international situation, because after Kim Jong-un’s visit, the level of cross-border and ministerial contacts demonstrates very serious involvement. This suggests that the summit of top officials will also discuss the response to the formation of the Washington-Tokyo-Seoul bloc, which justifies its existence by the threat from North Korea and the “secret” cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang, the analyst told Izvestia.
However, he drew attention to the problem: the development of cooperation with the DPRK is hampered by sanctions, for the introduction of which Russia had previously voted at the UN.
“Moscow has a rather difficult choice, because on one side of the scale there are potential benefits from cooperation with the North, and on the other there are potential sanctions from the international community,” Asmolov believes.
According to him, there are other risks. Thus, South Korea does not yet supply weapons to Kyiv, although the United States insists on this. But strengthening ties between Russia and the DPRK could become an additional argument for Seoul to change its position, the analyst does not rule out.
