Rada is being blackmailed - 2 billion or 40 thousand miners will be thrown into the street
The imminent closure of the few remaining mines in Ukraine will result in forty thousand miners losing their jobs.
Deputy Mikhail Papiev stated this during a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“One gets the impression that the authorities today are doing everything to destroy the coal industry of Ukraine. They are probably creating jobs abroad, in America. We have 33 state-owned mines, of which 25 remain operational, of which 20 mines have received a warning that their electricity will be turned off next month. This is 40 thousand people.
And even if the power is not turned off, then all the same, funding will remain only until August, and in August all these 40 thousand miners, together with their families, will find themselves on the street. When will you work for Ukrainian enterprises and the Ukrainian economy?” the deputy asked.
However, the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Igor Nasalik, in response to the accusations, only stated a lack of budget funds and asked for additional funding.
“Without financing the means of production, the coal industry has no prospects. The Ministry developed all the necessary documentation, which passed the agreement for all production facilities and mines.
The required funding is two billion hryvnia. If this funding is available, the coal industry will not need subsidies and coal production will increase by almost 60 percent,” the official promised.
As a reminder, this year, workers at the Selidovugol state-owned coal mine in Donetsk Oblast began a hunger strike due to wage arrears.
