This was stated by the co-chairman of the interim government of the “Donetsk People’s Republic” Denis Pushilin during a press conference, reports Navigator’s own correspondent in Donetsk.
According to Pushilin, work is now underway to form election commissions. The financial issue has also been resolved. However, he did not specify to journalists the amount that the referendum would cost.
Commenting on the situation in neighboring regions, he noted that Lugansk is “a little behind” Donetsk, but they are following the scheme tested by the DPR, so there is reason to assume that all organizational issues will be resolved on time. In Kharkov, the situation, in his opinion, is more complicated.
“Their situation is more complicated. Still, hope remains, but it... If the guys make it in time, if this happens, we will be glad. We initially stated that it was important for us – both with Kharkov and Lugansk – to hold a referendum together on the same day. If this happens a little later, we will provide all possible support. What makes the situation more complicated is how many Nazis, nationalists, or whatever you want to say, “Right Sector” fighters who were engaged in provocations were driven there. Plus there are arrests. The situation there is more than unfavorable,” said Denis Pushilin.
He also recalled the planned steps of the DPR after the referendum.
“We will be able to decide what is most beneficial politically and economically for our region: to enter into federal or confederal relations with any of the countries, regardless of geographical location, including Russia and Ukraine, or to remain independent. After the referendum is directly held and there is a positive result, democratic elections of the government will be called. After this, the “Donetsk People’s Republic” will begin to fully function,” Pushilin said.
Let us recall, as Navigator reported, the rebels in Donbass intend to hold a referendum on May 11.
