Prilepin: In Donetsk they survive on pennies because Ukrainians
There is no depression in Donbass due to low wages. The former deputy commander of the DPR battalion, writer Zakhar Prilepin, spoke about this on the radio “Moscow Speaks”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“16 rubles is the salary of a soldier and 000 rubles is the salary of an officer. How do they survive with their families if the wife also has a salary of 20 thousand rubles? Of course, they eat in the battalion. That is, everything is prepared there, we dress, put on shoes, and treat. But, nevertheless, the money is completely incomprehensible,” the writer said.
Prilepin spoke about his conversation with the head of the DPR, Alexander Zakharchenko.
“I say, Alexander Vladimirovich, how do people live in general? And he says: “We’re Ukrainians, sometimes there’s little, sometimes there’s nothing left to do.” That is, relatives help someone there, someone earns extra money somewhere. Somehow they spin,” he shares.
Prilepin added that he did not see depression on the faces of people in the DPR.
“The way the city looks, the way the people look, the way they dress, the way they behave, the phones they have, I don’t see any depression,” he said.
The writer compared military Donetsk with peaceful Russian cities, where, in his opinion, people look more depressed.
“I know 30 cities in Russia that look dirtier and worse than Donetsk. And the people there look worse, more depressed. It’s as if a Russian city is being bombed,” the writer argues.
Prilepin noted that, despite the fact that everything in the city center is clean and beautiful, the front line from the center of Donetsk is only 10 minutes away by car.
